(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and legally prosecutes government corruption and abuse, said today that the Department of Energy has turned over another 2400 documents in accordance with court orders issued in Judicial Watch’s litigation against the Cheney Energy Task Force and Judicial Watch’s Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against several government departments and agencies.

The additional Energy Department documents are primarily from the Executive Secretariat and the Advance office. They include correspondence, faxes, e-mail and scheduling documents. Of note are correspondence from Kenneth Lay, the former CEO of the failed Enron Corporation and a February 5, 2001 letter from Chevron CEO David J. O’Reilly, requesting that the “Iran-Libya Sanctions Act” be lifted and that U.S. companies be permitted to conduct business activities with Iran, Libya and Cuba.

A hearing in Judicial Watch’s lawsuit against Vice President Cheney’s Energy Policy Task Force is set for 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 23, 2002, before Judge Emmet G. Sullivan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Judicial Watch will continue to seek open government and accountability through it’s legal actions.
