2007 Weekly Updates

2007 Weekly Updates from Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton

 - October 19, 2007 - A few weeks ago, I told you that Judicial Watch filed a complaint with Maricopa County (AZ) Sheriff Joe Arpaio on behalf of Phoenix businesses who are being harassed and victimized by illegal aliens. Sheriff Arpaio promised to take action, and this week he made good on his word.

- October 12, 2007 - “Personnel is policy,” or so the old political adage goes. This week, the media has gotten around to exposing a criminal as part of the personnel of Hillary Clinton’s kitchen cabinet.

- October 5, 2007 - Judicial Watch’s legal battle over Hillary’s White House records is getting very, very interesting. This week the National Archives produced a “Status Report and Processing Schedule” for the records in response to an August 30, 2007 court order issued in Judicial Watch’s FOIA lawsuit.

- September 28, 2007 - Two stories hit the press this week that highlight the Clinton campaign’s obsession with secrecy and control, especially when it comes to their public image.

- September 21, 2007 - The campaign fundraising scandal involving apparel executive and admitted felon Norman Hsu and Hillary Clinton has the press probing the backgrounds of some of the bigger presidential campaign contributors.

- September 14, 2007 - Thanks in part to a Judicial Watch lawsuit, more than 10,000 pages of Hillary Clinton’s records currently archived at the Clinton Presidential library may be eligible for public release as soon as this December.

- September 7, 2007 - Last week, the press outed Hillary’s leading fundraiser, Norman Hsu, as a fugitive from justice. Hsu pleaded guilty to a felony count of grand theft in 1991 for defrauding investors and then never showed up for his sentencing hearing scheduled in a San Mateo County, California, courtroom.

- August 31, 2007 - Our nation’s capital is abuzz this week with the revelation that Senator Larry Craig (R-ID) was caught by police earlier this summer attempting to solicit sex in a Minneapolis International Airport bathroom.

- August 24, 2007 - President Bush was on the defensive this week, denying rumors that he and the leaders of Canada and Mexico are planning to create a “regional super-government” much like the European Union.

- August 17, 2007 - Archivists at the Clinton Presidential Library said this week they will not release records related to Hillary’s White House years until after the 2008 presidential election. How convenient.

- August 10. 2007 - Judicial Watch continues to monitor the activities of the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP), an “international agreement” between the United States, Mexico and Canada with the expressed goal of “a safer, more prosperous North America.”

- August 3, 2007 - Judicial Watch continues to fight for the enforcement of our nation’s immigration laws, leading a nationwide legal campaign against so-called “sanctuary policies” for illegal aliens.

- July 27, 2007 - Illegal immigrants and their special interest groups got a helping hand on Thursday from U.S. District Court Judge James Munley, a Clinton appointee, who ruled unconstitutional two Hazleton, Pennsylvania, laws designed to crack down on illegal immigration.

- July 20, 2007 - As Hillary Clinton moves forward in her goal to become President of the United States (according to latest Zogby poll she’s got a comfortable 12 point lead over Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination), Judicial Watch continues to investigate the corrupt record Hillary compiled while last in the White House, serving as “co-president” in the first Clinton administration.

- July 13, 2007 - As local communities continue to struggle with the federal government’s failure to stop the illegal alien invasion, not all local officials are taking the easy way out by implementing sanctuary policies for illegal aliens. Some are doing the right thing by enforcing the law. Too bad some courts don’t see it that way.

- July 6, 2007 - This week President Bush issued “Executive Clemency” to convicted felon I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby commuting Libby’s 30-month jail sentence. You can probably guess my reaction. It was the wrong decision and it comes at a terrible time.

- June 29, 2007 - A few weeks ago, I reported that the Senate immigration reform bill was alive but on life support. This week, the Senate chose to pull the plug.

- June 22, 2007 - Just in case you weren’t yet convinced the federal government may have overlooked a few things in its investigation of the 9/11 attacks, check this out: On Wednesday, Judicial Watch released new documents from the FBI related to the “expeditious departure” (as the FBI puts it) of Saudi nationals, including members of the bin Laden family, from the United States following the 9/11 attacks.

- June 15, 2007 - You may recall a couple of weeks ago I wrote about two new Hillary Clinton biographies: "A Woman in Charge: The Life of Hillary Rodham Clinton, by Carl Bernstein and Her Way: The Hopes and Ambitions of Hillary Rodham Clinton, by Jeff Gerth and Don Van Natta Jr.

- June 8, 2007 - I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, former Chief of Staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, was sentenced this week to 30 months in prison and fined $250,000 for lying and obstructing the Valerie Plame CIA leak investigation.

- June 1, 2007 - Two new books about Hillary Clinton are hitting the book shelves. I have not yet had a chance to review either book thoroughly. However, if press reports are to be believed, neither paints a very flattering picture of Senator Clinton, the front-runner for the Democratic nomination for president.

- May 25, 2007 - Last week, the Bush White House and a select group of senators reached a prospective deal on immigration… a deal that could mean amnesty for millions of illegal aliens.

- May 18, 2007 - Former Clinton National Security Advisory Sandy Berger gave up his law license and likely will never practice law again. Facing the prospect of an embarrassing cross-examination by the District of Columbia Board on Bar Counsel related to his theft of classified documents from the National Archives, Berger forfeited his law license on May 17.

- May 11, 2007 - Here’s a story for all of those illegal immigration apologists out there who claim all illegal aliens are innocents who only come to the United States to seek opportunity and a better life.

- May 4, 2007 - On April 25, I sent a letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales calling for an investigation of Michigan Democratic Rep. John Conyers. Judicial Watch recently obtained documentation from a former Conyers staffer that sheds new light on the activities and conduct on the part of the Michigan congressman...

- April 27, 2007 - Last night, eight candidates for the Democratic nomination for president took center stage in a debate televised on MSNBC. While the important topic of ethics was largely ignored, Barack Obama was asked one question about his relationship with shady political fundraiser, Antoin “Tony” Rezko.

- April 20, 2007 - Regular readers of this update know that Judicial Watch is a leading voice for strong ethics enforcement in Congress. Not only do we seek to hold individual members of Congress accountable when they violate the rule of law, but we also have been pushing for ethics reform through our own public education efforts, and through the collective efforts of the Congressional Ethics Coalition.

- April 13, 2007 - In today’s contentious political climate, it is difficult to achieve a substantial majority on any given issue. Illegal immigration appears to be an exception.

- April 6, 2007 - Yesterday afternoon, we held a well-attended press conference at the National Press Club to announce the results of an important new poll conducted by Judicial Watch in partnership with Zogby International. The topic? The American people’s attitudes towards the Clintons and corruption.

- March 30, 2007 - This week, Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit against Florida Democratic Congressman Alcee Hastings. You may recall that Hastings is one of only six federal judges ever to be removed from office through impeachment...Most recently, Hastings was rejected by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for the chairmanship of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence after Judicial Watch and others complained about his corrupt history.

- March 23, 2007 - Two former Border Patrol agents will spend more than a decade in prison based in part on the testimony of an alleged Mexican drug smuggler, Osbaldo Aldrete-Davila, who was given immunity by the U.S. government for his testimony. Did the Mexican government try to pressure the U.S. to prosecute the two agents?

- March 16, 2007 - “We Need These People Out, We Need Our People In”...The above quote is NOT in Department of Justice emails about the removal of eight U.S. Attorneys. That’s a handwritten quote from Hillary Clinton in 1993 referring to seven employees of the Clinton White House Travel Office.

- March 9, 2007 - This week, Judicial Watch, filed two separate complaints against New York Senator Hillary Clinton regarding, yet again, inaccurate financial disclosure reporting. The complaints were filed with the United States Senate Select Committee on Ethics and the Department of Justice.

- March 2, 2007 - Yesterday morning, Judicial Watch hosted an exciting panel on illegal immigration at the National Press Club entitled, “Local Governments and Illegal Immigration.”

- February 23, 2007 - When the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee released a report in January providing new details of Sandy Berger’s theft and destruction of classified documents from the National Archives, among those outraged by the revelations were members of the 9/11 Commission. Why?

- February 16, 2007 - Hillary Clinton is in the midst of a mad dash for campaign dollars, hoping to establish her financial dominance over her competitors for the Democratic nomination. According to The Washington Post, Clinton plans to bank $60 million in 2007 alone, which “would represent a record-breaking take for a presidential contest.”

- February 9, 2007 - Remember all of those “old” Clinton-era scandals? Well, now that Hillary Clinton is a candidate for President of the United States, what’s old is new. These scandals are more than relevant as the American people decide just what kind of president Hillary Clinton will make.

- February 2, 2007 - Judicial Watch continues to push for transparency regarding high-level meetings between officials from the U.S., Canada and Mexico under the auspices of the “Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP).”

- January 26, 2007 - It’s official. This week, Hillary Clinton threw her hat into the ring of contenders for the Democratic nomination for president in 2008. Now, the American people will take a long, hard look at Hillary’s record as they weigh her candidacy. And any discussion of Hillary Clinton’s record begins and ends with her alleged crimes and ethical transgressions.

- January 19, 2007 - This week jury selection got underway in the trial of I. Lewis Libby, Jr., the former chief of staff to Vice President Cheney. Libby is accused of lying to a grand jury and the FBI investigating who leaked the name of CIA operative Valerie Plame to the media.

- January 12, 2007 - It took a Judicial Watch lawsuit, but it appears the Herndon Town Council may finally get serious about making sure its day laborer site is operated in a manner consistent with state and federal laws.

- January 5, 2007 - Washington pundits are excited for a potential battle for the Democratic nomination for president between the “fresh-faced” freshman Senator from Illinois, Barack Obama, and the consummate political insider, New York Senator Hillary Clinton.
