(Washington, D.C.) – A hearing on a motion to dismiss a $100 million class action lawsuit over U.S. Postal Service officials’ handling of anthrax contamination at the Brentwood postal facility in Washington, D.C., will be held Thursday, April 29. Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, will urge the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia not to dismiss its lawsuit, which was filed on behalf of 2,300 USPS workers. Two postal workers died from inhalation anthrax they contracted while working in the Brentwood facility, which remained open for days after other contaminated government buildings were closed. The lawsuit alleges officials knew the Brentwood facility was contaminated by anthrax but failed to inform postal workers of the danger.
Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton will hold a press conference on the steps in front of the U.S. District Court building at 333 Constitution Avenue, NW, immediately following the court hearing. He will be joined by Dena Briscoe, a former Brentwood postal worker and president of Brentwood Exposed, a support group for Brentwood postal workers. A number of Brentwood postal facility workers are expected to attend the hearing.
