According to New Judicial Watch - Zogby Poll : 66% of Likely Voters -- Including Majority of Hispanics - Support Using More Law

(Washington DC) -- Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today released the results of a nationwide poll conducted in partnership with Zogby International concerning the American people’s attitudes towards illegal immigration.  Among the highlights of the poll conducted March 22 – 26, 2007:

• Overall, 66% of likely voters believe that more emphasis should be placed on law enforcement when addressing the issue of illegal immigration, including 51.6% of Hispanics and 56.8% of self-described political “liberals.”  Only 5% said the emphasis on law enforcement should be diminished, including 3% of Hispanics.

• 79% believe public officials should not use taxpayer funds to operate day laborer sites that help illegal aliens, including 71.9% of Hispanics and 70% of self-described political “liberals.”

• 72% of likely voters believe local law enforcement officers should help enforce federal immigration laws, including 40% of Hispanics and 55% of self-described political “liberals.”

“The American people speak with one voice on the topic of illegal immigration.  Virtually every voter demographic – even those supposedly most sympathetic to illegal aliens – want our illegal immigration laws to be strictly enforced,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.  “Overwhelmingly, the American people want local officials to help address illegal immigration through law enforcement, not taxpayer subsidies and ‘sanctuary’ policies.”

This telephone survey, conducted by Zogby International, included a target sample of 1,039 interviews.  The margin of error is +/- 3.1 percentage points.

Judicial Watch has taken a leading role in pushing for the strong enforcement of our nation’s immigration laws.  For example, Judicial Watch has cutting-edge litigation against taxpayer-funded day laborer sites that illegally assist illegal aliens with finding employment.  Judicial Watch is also litigating against the Los Angeles Police Department (and ACLU lawyers) to end “sanctuary policies” that prohibit police officers from enforcing federal immigration laws and cooperating with federal immigration authorities.

Immigration Views

About five years ago or so I was commissioned to do a local survey in Arizona concerning the attitudes of legal Hispanic citizens toward illegals. The numbers were overwhelmingly against illegals. The numbers were 68% against, 14% in favor and the rest were not sure. I interviewed almost 1300 people around the state for these numbers.

Almost 99% had claimed they had been victims of discrimination directly related to illegal immigration. The complaints ranged from work situations, home rental or purchase problems, to comments on the streets and for their kids, in the schools. Most blamed the problem directly on illegals, though they also blame the Bush administration for being too lax about the problem.

Not long after, the Pew Foundation accomplished much the same survey with similar results.

This all begs the question, why are both of these supposedly intelligent Presidential candidates pandering to a people who are against what they are proposing as a means of getting votes, when it is obvious that the only one's favoring amnesty are liberals and illegals?

I Wholeheartedly Agree

I live in a liberal area of Northern California. It absolutely astonished me when I was walking our tract of homes getting signatures to build the fence at the border. Even my liberal, and I mean very liberal neighbors are for the fence. Some are retired teachers and they see the devastation that illegal immigration has had on our educational system. Although we do not come together on other issues, this is the ONE issue that we do come together on and are willing to march in the streets of DC if needed. Unfortunately for us, our Congress member, Mike Thompson, is not for enforcement.

Thank you for your work and the updates on this issues. Thank you for the poll information.

Intentional Divide

These numbers are not surprising. Most Americans, regardless of skin color, ancestrial origination, economic background or gender want leadership with respect for the Constitution and the people of the United States.

It is a no-brainer for Middle Americans. Solutions to our problems are not 'complex', but rather upholding the rule of law...period.

We understand the fact that we (the continental United States) are being invaded from the South. We understand militants will use ANY means to bring down this great country. We also understand, the pandering, self-serving globalists in Washington DC, K-Street and Wall Street are sleeping with one another.

We have two choices for the next POTUS...both are sickening to watch. They along with most of their fellow Senators need another career path.
