JUDICIAL WATCH SUPPORTS NET’S DECISION TO COVER BURTON INVESTIGATION OVER THOMPSON HEARINGS

NET’s Switch From Covering Senate to House Hearings

While Senator Fred Thompson has redirected the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee’s hearings on campaign finance away from illegal activities and attempts by foreign countries to illegally influence the United Sates government, Representative Dan Burton has rightly begun the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee’s hearings focusing on investigating illegality. NET, the only network to cover the campaign finance hearings from their inception, has rightly, in the opinion of Judicial Watch, switched their coverage to the House investigation.

Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman stated: "How can Senator Thompson, and his fellow Senators, talk of reforming the campaign finance laws when they are not even interested in enforcing the campaign finance laws as they now exist? It is clear that Republicans as well as Democrats in the Senate cannot bear the heat of a thorough and tough investigation. NET has rightly chosen to shine the media’s bright light on the House’s investigation of campaign finance instead of the Senate’s talk of campaign finance reform."

Judicial Watch uncovered John Huang and the campaign finance scandal in its case against the Clinton Commerce Department. Recently, Judicial Watch was offered about two million dollars by the Clinton Administration if it would drop its investigation. Judicial Watch refused.
