JUDICIAL WATCH OPENS INVESTIGATION OF SENATOR FRED THOMPSON

Judicial Watch Suspects Coordinated Cover-up of Campaign Finance Illegalities By Republicans and Democrats

Today, Judicial Watch announced that it has opened an investigation of Senator Fred Thompson to determine the reasons behind his recent decision to suspend investigation of illegal fundraising practices by both the Democratic and Republican parties. Judicial Watch suspects that this determination is part of an agreed cover-up by the two political parties.

Judicial Watch, in conducting its investigation, will focus on the illegal or improper campaign fundraising practices of Senator Thompson himself, the Committee's Chairman, which have been reported by the press to include but not be limited to: 1.) Accepting money from Farad Azima, who was linked to the Iran Contra affair, and whose donations to the Democratic National Committee were recently returned; 2.) Being on the list of the top ten senators who have received money "laundered" through the children of donors; 3.) Receiving nearly $200,000 from Republican political action committees (PAC's), as well as 4.) taking $8,000 from a Marxist adviser of Fidel Castro, John Henry Cabanas.

"It should come as no surprise to anyone knowledgeable about Senator Thompson's fundraising past that he was quick to cut and run when Democrats made it clear that they would begin to focus on Republicans, like him. As Roger Tamraz implied last week, many on the Thompson Committee are subject to being bought, and he has pursued "relationships" with many of them. In response, Senator Thompson asked him not to "ask for names," stated Larry Klayman, Judicial Watch Chairman. "My group," added Klayman, "will investigate illegalities by both parties and is prepared to name names to reveal the real reasons for Senator Thompson's retreat and cover-up. The American people deserve to know the real truth, in order that appropriate action can be demanded and taken about the Senators’ abdication of their elected duties."

Judicial Watch is the public interest group which uncovered John Huang and the campaign finance scandal.
