RENO STILL IN HER STALL

When Will Congress Wake Up and Resume its Investigation of the Clinton Administration’s Scandals

CNN is reporting that Justice Department lawyers have orally recommended to Janet Reno that she proceed with the second optional step to the appointment of an independent counsel to investigate Vice-President Al Gore, a 90 day Justice Department investigation. Today, Larry Klayman, Chairman of Judicial Watch, the group that exposed the campaign finance scandal and John Huang in its three-year old lawsuit against the Clinton Commerce Department, issued the following response:

"Why do they need another 90 days? For seven months, Judicial Watch has documented the lack of a vigorous investigation by Janet Reno’s Justice Department. In deposition after deposition of Clinton Administration officials, Judicial Watch has shown that these key officials have not been questioned, much more called before a grand jury, by Reno’s so-called Public Integrity section, despite the fact that evidence has been shredded, hidden, and removed. If Reno was truly serious she would end her delaying tactics and appoint an independent counsel now!"

"It is time for the Washington establishment to wake up and focus on this scandal. It is time for Senator Fred Thompson to resume the Senate investigation into this scandal – instead of pretending to be interested in campaign finance reform. Until Congress and the Clinton Justice Department get serious and stop worrying about protecting their own ‘derrieres,’ it is up to the media and groups like Judicial Watch, the people’s watchdog, to uncover the truth instead of the intentionally hapless Reno Justice Department and Congress. However they haven’t seen anything yet – as the scandal will not go away – no matter how hard both parties try to protect themselves by conducting ‘politicized’ and watered-down investigations."
