JUDICIAL WATCH CALLS FOR CONGRESS TO LEGISLATE APPOINTMENT OF INDEPENDENT COUNSEL TO INVESTIGATE ATTORNEY GENERAL JANET RENO’S CONDUCT

In its cases against the Clinton Administration, which uncovered John Huang and the campaign finance scandal, Judicial Watch long ago exposed that the Reno Justice Department was not conducting a vigorous investigation. In 40 depositions of Clinton Administration officials, Judicial Watch learned long ago that Reno was not questioning, nor calling before the grand jury, key witnesses, including John Huang’s secretary. Coupled with this, Judicial Watch has documented the presentation of false affidavits to the Court, the shredding of documents, the hiding of documents, and the removal of documents. (All members of the media are invited to Judicial Watch’s office to review this evidence). Reno’s lawyers have been sanctioned repeatedly by the Court. See American Spectator: "Who Is Bruce Heygi?", October 1997.

"Coupled with Reno’s recent letter exonerating the Clinton Administration of wrongdoing, and the recent revelation of videotapes, which she never bothered, at best, to ask about, it is now clear that Janet Reno is part of a conspiracy to obstruct justice. She may even be part of the alleged underlying illegal activity, as demonstrated by a recent document uncovered by Judicial Watch in its case against the Justice Department," stated Judicial Watch Chairman Larry Klayman.

"As a result, Congress should pass special legislation to appoint an independent counsel to thoroughly investigate the apparent wrongdoing of Janet Reno. Obviously, she cannot investigate her own actions, no more than she has vigorously investigated the Clinton Administration. Without ‘Justice’ - the American people are betrayed", added Klayman.
