HUANG'S APPOINTMENT TO COMMERCE WAS A "DONE DEAL"

JUDICIAL WATCH HAS FACTS PROVING THE TRUE CIRCUMSTANCES BEHIND HUANG'S APPOINTMENT TO THE COMMERCE DEPARTMENT

While the witnesses at today's hearings of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee attempted to minimize the circumstances behind John Huang's appointment to the Commerce Department, the facts as uncovered by Judicial Watch in its three-year-old case to uncover the truth behind the Commerce Department's illegal fundraising and other activities tell a different story.

Based on testimony from Judicial Watch's deposition of Commerce Deputy Undersecretary David Rothkopf, former Commerce Undersecretary for International Trade, Jeffrey Garten admitted to Mr. Rothkopf that Huang's appointment to the Department of Commerce was based on pressure from either the White House or Commerce Secretary Ron Brown. Rothkopf claims to have expressed reservations about Huang to Garten, but Garten gave him the impression that Huang's appointment was a "done deal."

Mr. Gary A. Christopherson, the former Clinton White House Associate Personnel Director, testified before the Thompson Committee that the Clintons considered Huang "one of their own," and thus he was pushed for a high post at the Commerce Department.

Larry Klayman, Chairman and General Counsel of Judicial Watch, stated today: "This sworn testimony proves that John Huang was the agent of the Clintons and they wanted him placed at the Commerce Department. The Clintons are thus directly responsible for the actions of John Huang."

Mr. Klayman is providing gavel-to-gavel in depth analysis on National Empowerment Television's (NET) coverage of the Senate Campaign Finance Hearings.
