Hirschfeld fails to transfer money to Jones team

Seems to recognize that gift illegal under U.S. Criminal Code

If Necessary, Judicial Watch Will Go To Judge Wright to Block Payment

As reported in USA Today, Abe Hirschfeld failed to make good on his promise to give Paula Jones and her lawyers $1 million, to be held in trust, pending completion of a settlement in the Jones v. Clinton lawsuit.

Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman, in a nationally-televised speech this past Saturday, noted that the Hirschfeld gift would be illegal under 5 U.S.C. 7543 and relevant federal regulations, since the President, who will benefit from this, can neither solicit nor accept, nor benefit from money provided by outside sources. These comments were picked up by CNN and Fox News Sunday, among other major media outlets.

"Judicial Watch has made it clear that we would try to intervene in the Little Rock court and argue that any settlement using Mr. Hirschfeld's funds is illegal and void," noted Klayman. "We're pleased to see Hirschfeld pulling back from his offer to the Jones team. Thanks to Judicial Watch's efforts, he seems to realize that the gift would be illegal under the U.S. Criminal Code."

"The President is a prodigious fundraiser," Klayman said. "But when it comes to raising funds, either directly and indirectly, from Hirschfeld and others for his legal bills, the law is clear -- he'll have to wait until he leaves office."
