Judicial Watch: "Democrats out of control"

"Squeal Like Stuck Pigs" Over Raising Of "Chinagate" Scandal

Allies In The Media Come To Their Defense

Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman blasted House Democrats for their desperate attempt to block the broadening of the House Judiciary Committee's impeachment inquiry to include alleged campaign finance violations by the Clinton Administration. In a party line vote yesterday, the Committee moved to subpoena a number of documents central to the charges of illegal campaign fund-raising.

"The Democrats and their allies in the media are out of control. They're squealing like stuck pigs because they know that the 'Chinagate' scandal is at the very core of the most serious allegations against the Clinton White House," Klayman said. "They understand that any real investigation of these charges - particularly anything related to the transfer of technology to the Chinese in exchange for campaign contributions - would result in the impeachment and removal of the President and would devastate the Democratic Party for years to come."

Last week Judicial Watch filed an omnibus racketeering lawsuit aimed at getting to the heart of the "Chinagate" scandal. The suit names as defendants President Clinton, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Vice President Gore, the Democratic Party, Loral Corporation and its CEO Bernard Schwartz, and former Commerce Department official and Clinton-Gore fund-raiser John Huang. It was Judicial Watch's discovery of Huang that initially sparked the "Chinagate" scandal.

"Even though the Judiciary Committee's probe of 'Chinagate' and related campaign finance scandals is unlikely to be thorough enough to get very far at all - particularly in light of the severe, artificial time limit placed on the impeachment process - the extreme reaction of the Democrats clearly shows just how damaging this issue is to the White House," Klayman continued. "They know that if this thread is pulled, the whole fabric of the Clinton Administration and the Democratic Party will unravel."

Klayman added that Judicial Watch will continue its probe of "Chinagate" and other illegal campaign fund-raising activities, whether they involve Democrats or Republicans. "We are going to pursue this matter regardless of what the Judiciary Committee does. If, as expected, the Committee drops the issue after only a cursory look, Judicial Watch will get to the truth, no matter how long it takes."
