Clinton plans yet another 'apology' as White House attack machine shifts into high gear

Klayman Condemns Smear Attack On Rep. Bob Barr

Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman today urged Congress, the media and the American people to ignore President Clinton’s last-minute public "apology" for the Lewinsky sex scandal. Various media sources have reported that Clinton is considering making yet another televised "apology" for his behavior in the Lewinsky scandal. The proposed "apology" is viewed as an eleventh-hour attempt to stave off impeachment.

"President Lincoln said ‘you can’t fool all the people all of the time’," Klayman said. "P.T. Barnum said ‘there’s a sucker born every minute.’ It’s obvious that Bill Clinton draws his inspiration from the latter, and not the former.

"Any further ‘apology’ by Bill Clinton will be far too little and way too late," Klayman said. "Even as the White House spin machine is considering another try at a presidential mea culpa, the White House attack machine is continuing its vicious assaults on its perceived opponents."

Klayman condemned a new, purposely timed campaign by Clinton allies to smear House Judiciary Committee member Bob Barr (R-GA) in the media. Klayman indicated that the smear campaign, being fronted by Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz (who has been ‘dying’ to work for Bill Clinton), likely could be traced directly back to the White House.

"Today’s attack on Rep. Bob Barr is a perfect example of how the White House attack machine works," Klayman concluded. "In Judicial Watch’s ‘Filegate’ case, we uncovered that the White House and James Carville kept files on Bob Barr and other perceived enemies of the administration. This attempt to smear Bob Barr’s good name proves that it’s business as usual at the White House.

"For the record, we have found Bob Barr to be one of the most honorable and patriotic elected officials in this nation," Klayman concluded. "Bob Barr is my friend and Judicial Watch will continue to work closely with him on impeachment and other means to bring this administration to justice."
