House Chinagate committee reaches political conclusions

Judicial Watch Lawsuit Against Loral/Clinton Administration May Be Only Hope for Justice

Today, as predicted by Judicial Watch, the House Committee investigating technology transfers to China reached a political conclusion, under the guise of bipartisanship. Rather than recommending prosecution of individuals and companies involved in the technology transfers to China - which harmed U.S. national security - the committee recommended only "remedial" measures for the future.

"This comes as no surprise to Judicial Watch, which has been saying for months that Republicans and Democrats would not want to confront the issues of past conduct in Chinagate, since both Republican and Democrat donors are involved. Specifically, Hughes Electronics is primarily a Republican donor and Loral is primarily a Democratic giver," stated Larry Klayman, Chairman of Judicial Watch. (Both Hughes and Loral went on the now infamous Clinton Commerce Department trade mission to China.)

On behalf of Loral, two shareholders have brought a derivative suit seeking redress for the alleged damage which has occurred to Loral as a result of the breaches of U.S. national security. The suit also brings a RICO action against President Bill Clinton, Vice President Al Gore, John Huang and others who allegedly sold export licenses transferring high technology to China in exchange for campaign contributions. Judicial Watch represents these two shareholders.
