The mysterious John Huang

Senate draft report glosses over Huang's role; Judicial Watch vows to get to the truth

"Bob Woodward's Washington Post report today on the Thompson Committee draft conclusions on Red Chinese attempts to influence the Clinton Administration with illegal foreign contributions is notable for what it does not say about the mysterious John Huang," said Larry Klayman, Chairman and General Counsel for Judicial Watch. Klayman's Judicial Watch uncovered Clinton friend John Huang's illegal activities at the Commerce Department and Democratic National Committee which ignited the campaign finance scandal still engulfing the Clinton White House today. To this date, Larry Klayman is the only person to have taken sworn testimony from Huang. Judicial Watch seeks to question Huang again as part of its ongoing suit against the Clinton Commerce Department for its illegal awarding of taxpayer-financed trade mission seats in return for political contributions. Contrary to earlier public assertions to the contrary by the Clinton Administration, Huang was intimately involved with these trade missions while he worked at Commerce.

According to Bob Woodward, Thompson's draft report "touches very lightly" on John Huang, speaking vaguely of "unverified information" that Huang may have had a "direct financial relationship" with the Red Chinese government. "As The Washington Post has previously reported that there is evidence that Huang may have passed a classified Commerce Department document to the Red Chinese and that Huang was in constant contact, while working for Commerce, with his former employers at the Lippo Group through a secret office across the street from his government office, it is more than passing strange that Thompson gives Huang a virtual free pass on the charges of spying for Red China," said Klayman.

"The Thompson draft report links Huang's former employers at the Lippo Group to Red China, saying that Huang's Lippo bosses Mochtar and James Riady have had a long-term relationship with a Chinese intelligence agency. As the publicly available evidence shows Huang was an agent for Lippo while at Commerce and at the DNC, it is an inescapable conclusion, based on this same public evidence, that he was likely part the Lippo Group-Red Chinese spy ring B a spy ring that had contribution-greased access to President Clinton himself," Klayman said.

Noting that the Reno Justice Department has still not questioned John Huang about his clearly illegal money laundering, bribery, and spying activities, Klayman said, "We know that Reno is covering up for her boss Bill Clinton" that's why she isn't interested in getting the truth from Huang. What is Thompson's excuse for not deposing John Huang?

"There seems to be a bi-partisan attempt to let John Huang off the hook," noted Klayman. "Clearly, neither the Clinton Justice Department nor the Republicans in Congress can be trusted to get at the truth about John Huang, the man at the center of the worst political scandal in American history," added Klayman.
