Carville lies on CNN's 'Crossfire'

Tells public that he had not gathered information about sex lives of investigators

Documentation Shows He is the "Ringleader" of The White House Smear Campaign

McCurry's Statements That He is Acting On His Own Are False

Judicial Watch Interim Report to Congress Details Carville's Involvement

Yesterday evening, James Carville, was interviewed on CNN's Crossfire, and asked about documents obtained by Judicial Watch from his Education Information Project. These documents show that, contrary to the public statements of White House Press Secretary Mike McCurry, that Carville is directed by The White House in waging a smear campaign against perceived Clinton adversaries and material witnesses. The documents also show that Carville has received information from a number of sources about the sex lives of investigators. Carville's sources include but are not limited to Gene Lyons of Salon Magazine -- the Clinton front operation that recently smeared Chairman Henry Hyde and Speaker Newt Gingrich. In addition, Judicial Watch subpoenaed from Carville audio tapes, which are now in the Court's possession, delving into the sexual and personal backgrounds of investigators. In other internal Carville documents obtained by Judicial Watch under subpoena, Carville targets Starr and Republican leaders, including Speaker Gingrich and Representative Dan Burton. Rep. Burton recently was smeared as well.

Importantly, discovery in Judicial Watch's Filegate lawsuit also shows that Carville stays in regular contact with the President and his lawyer, David Kendall, who hired investigators to presumably dig up dirt on witnesses and perceived critics and adversaries. He also talks daily, several times per day, with others in the White House, including Rahm Emanuel and Sidney Blumenthal. George Stephanopoulos, who announced the "Ellen Rometch strategy," but refused to identify who specifically is furthering this scorched earth smear campaign (a motion is pending to force Stephanopoulos to answer), talks to Carville up to seven times a day. His professed independence as an ABC commentator is thus more for TV marketing, and his own professional future, than a concern for ethics and the law.

The "Ellen Rometsch strategy," historically speaking, refers to the misuse of FBI files to blackmail a Republican Congress into not investigating the potential breach of national security resulting from President John Kennedy's affair with an East German spy. Ironically, Judicial Watch's Interim Report on illegality in the Clinton Administration, which was delivered to Congress last Monday, details likely breaches of national security as well.
