President files for immunity from Judicial Watch suit

Seeks to re-argue Supreme Court case in Jones v. Clinton

Clinton Once Again Tries To Duck Responsibility For His Actions

Judicial Watch Chairman Larry Klayman today announced that President Clinton, through his personal counsel, has filed a motion in federal court requesting immunity from the public interest law firm's suit against the President on behalf of Dolly Kyle Browning. The President's motion, filed by his attorney David Kendall, marks the second time Clinton has claimed immunity from a civil suit, the first coming in response to the Paula Jones sexual harassment suit.

"The President is once again attempting to delay justice in the face of very serious charges," Klayman said. "Dolly Kyle Browning's rights have been violated by a systematic campaign to harm her that was run directly by Bill Clinton and his agents. She deserves her day in court. This motion for Presidential immunity is nothing more than yet another example of President Clinton's life-long aversion to accepting any form of responsibility for his actions."

The Judicial Watch suit alleges that the President and his agents engaged in a campaign of defamation, invasion of privacy, intentional infliction of emotional distress, tortious interference with prospective business advantage and civil conspiracy against Dolly Kyle Browning and her husband's publishing company, DOCC. The suit further states that these actions -- along with threats against other women, as reported recently in The Wall Street Journal -- constitute a violation of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).

President Clinton's motion was filed in the United States District Court on October 27, 1998 and cites Presidential Immunity in requesting a stay of Judicial Watch's action until his term is over. The Judicial Watch suit on behalf of Dolly Kyle Browning was filed on August 17, 1998.
