THE PROTECTION OF LOUIS FREEH AND JANET RENO

BURTON CHANGES STORY TO BLAME RENO INSTEAD OF FBI ABOUT FAILURE TO QUESTION PRESIDENT ON HUANG, LIPPO, AND CHINAGATE

(Washington, DC) Yesterday, the Associated Press published a story by Larry Margasak, entitled "GOP Questions Justice's Probe" that FBI agents who questioned President Bill Clinton never inquired about his involvement with John Huang, the Lippo Group, and other Chinagate-related matters. The source of this story was Chairman Dan Burton of the Government Reform Committee who, three years after John Huang was discovered, finally got around to calling him to testify. Last evening, however, after likely calls from the FBI, Burton changed his "spin" and stated on "Hannity & Colmes" on the FOX News Channel that Attorney General Janet Reno was responsible for the obvious failure to thoroughly investigate President Bill Clinton's involvement. This morning, in the Washington Post, in an article written by David A. Vise and Lorraine Adams, entitled "Rep. Burton Criticizes Reno," Charles LaBella, former Chief of the Campaign Finance Task Force at the Clinton Justice Department, someone who has been heralded as a "truth teller" in the Chinagate scandal, said that it was unfair to blame Janet Reno. It is, therefore, apparent that Chairman Burton, Charles LaBella, and others are each protecting their own political friends and interests; Mr. Burton protecting Louis Freeh, who is a Republican, and Charles LaBella protecting Janet Reno, with whom, since he is now a private investigator, he needs to keep on good terms in order to gather information from Justice Department sources when necessary.

"The incredible aspect of this entire charade by both Chairman Burton and Charles LaBella, which has been obvious from day one of the Chinagate scandal, is that neither Main Justice nor the FBI have performed their duties on behalf of the American people to expeditiously and thoroughly investigate and prosecute those persons, such as John Huang, President Bill Clinton, and Mrs. Hillary Clinton, who are behind the sellout of American security and other interests to the Communist Chinese in exchange for campaign contributions and other perks," stated Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman.
