Conservatives Must Keep Own House In Order (Washington, August 16) Back in the winter of 1996, just following the discovery of John Huang and the resulting Chinagate scandal, Newt Gingrich found himself enmeshed in a major ethics scandal, in which he later paid a $300,000 fine and admitted to bringing discredit on the House of Representatives. Putting its non-partisanship on display, Judicial Watch was one of the first to call for Gingrich's resignation as House Speaker. With the recent revelations, particularly on Drudge, about Newt Gingrich's ethics, Judicial Watch has been proved correct in its earlier assessment of the former House Speaker. "Conservatives, if they are to be persuasive and effective, must first keep their own house in order, especially if they are to have the moral and legal authority to tell others what is correct," stated Judicial Watch Chairman Larry Klayman and Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. | |
