2000 POLITICIANS ACCOUNTABILITY STRIKE FORCE IN HIGH GEAR

Lawsuits Concerning Bush, Giuliani May Be Filed Over Stonewalling on Questions Concerning Alleged Misuse of Taxpayer Resources for Political Campaigns If They Do Not Respond

Hillary Clinton's Air Travel Already Subject of Lawsuit, Gore Involved in Several Lawsuits, McCain Under Active Investigation

(Washington, D.C.) Judicial Watch, the public interest law firm that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, warned that it would file lawsuits in Texas and New York over the Bush and Giuliani administrations' refusal to provide documents concerning the use of taxpayer resources for their political campaigns. The impending lawsuits are part of Judicial Watch's 2000 Politicians Accountability Strike Force, which is an effort to ensure that candidates for pubic office obey the law.

Judicial Watch asked both the Bush administration in Texas and Giuliani administration in New York City for documents concerning the use of taxpayer resources for their respective campaigns. The documents were requested under Texas' and New York's freedom of information laws.

"The Bush response was to send us one document now showing his campaign reimbursed the Texas taxpayer for one airplane ticket. Giuliani's response was to send us nothing. This creates the appearance that they have something to hide," said Larry Klayman, Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel.

"Unless Bush and Giuliani respond quickly, Judicial Watch will file lawsuits to force them to obey the law and release the documents immediately to the American people," promised Klayman.

Judicial Watch has already filed lawsuits concerning Hillary Clinton's misuse of taxpayer funds to campaign for a New York U.S. Senate seat and concerning Al Gore's involvement in Chinagate fundraising and a real estate scheme in D.C. that kicked-back public funds to prominent Gore fundraisers. Judicial Watch also is investigating Senator John McCain's dealings with the Commerce Department.
