INDEPENDENT COUNSELS FAIL TO REVIEW CRUCIAL EVIDENCE

HELPS EXPLAIN THEIR LACK OF RESULTS

Washington Post Confirms Crucial Hard-Drive Evidence Not Obtained

(Washington, D.C.) In a story by George Lardner of The Washington Post ("White House Data Unsearched; Hard Drives, Tapes Not Examined for Subpoenaed Records, The Washington Post, Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at page A27), the fine investigative reporter confirmed that scores of hard drives of such key witnesses as Linda Tripp and William Kennedy (both heavily involved in the Filegate matter), have never been searched by The Clinton-Gore White House in response to document requests by Judicial Watch, the Congress and Offices of the Independent Counsel. The evidence on these hard drives, which Judicial Watch client Sheryl Hall stated under oath were secreted by the Clinton-Gore White House, should have been reviewed before the Independent Counsels issued their now discredited final reports in both Filegate and the Alexis Herman investigation, among others. For example, Lardner's article obtained an admission by Independent Counsel Ralph Lancaster that he simply told The Clinton-Gore White House not to bother to search these hard drives. Particularly given that Lancaster had politically-connected Democrats working for him, this leaves serious questions about the integrity of his investigation. The same is true for Independent Counsel Robert Ray, who is a life-long Democrat with political aspirations, according to The New York Times (see The New York Times, National, "Forgotten but Not Gone, Starr's Heir Presses On," Saturday, March 25, 2000, by Melinda Henneberger).

"There is nothing wrong with being a Democrat, but when Independent Counsels fail to do their job and then pronounce a "clean bill of health" on The Clinton-Gore White House, this leaves serious questions about who they are representing; the American people or their own political interests," stated Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman.
