THE "CCC" RIDES AGAIN

CASTRO, CLINTON, AND CRAIG (The "CCC") ALL CONSPIRE TO DEPRIVE ELIAN OF LIBERTY RIGHTS

Judicial Watch To File Complaint Today To Probe Whether "CCC" Is In Violation of Cuban Assets Control Regulations

(Washington, D.C.) In a rare act of "courage," President William Jefferson Clinton came "out of the closet" yesterday to support his defacto colleagues and benefactors, Fidel Castro and Gregory Craig -- "The CCC" -- who have been pushing to return Elian Gonzalez to Communist Cuba. Based on a number of factors, it would appear that the "CCC" are all working together.

The foremost factor creating this appearance is the hyperactive involvement of Gregory Craig, who not only works at the President’s law firm, Williams & Connolly, but also served as his taxpayer-paid counsel during the impeachment proceedings. Why would the President sanction his lawyer to represent Juan Miguel Gonzalez, who indisputably is under the control of Fidel Castro, if indeed the three were not working together? Underscoring this conclusion is the simple reality that Juan Miguel Gonzalez cannot afford to pay Gregory Craig’s legal fees, and Mr. Craig’s weak denials that indeed church-based organizations are footing the bill for expenses. Why would a lawyer such as Mr. Craig, who earns over $400 per hour from a law firm which has charged the President millions of dollars for its representation, agree to represent the father of Elian pro bono? Regrettably, lawyers are generally not this generous. Accordingly, Judicial Watch will be filing a complaint today under the Cuban Assets Control Regulations requesting a full investigation of whether or not Fidel Castro and Communist Cuba are the source of monies to fund the efforts of the "CCC." It is illegal to transact business with Communist Cuba as set forth at Title 31, Section 515.101 et. seq. Other legal action is also being considered.

"The appearance of Castro, Clinton, and Craig all working together in an attempt to deprive Elian Gonzalez of his right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness, not only is a low point in American history, but needs to be thoroughly investigated. As the President has stated recently, however disingenuous, ‘No one is above the rule of law.’ Judicial Watch will pursue this matter vigorously until all the facts are known and justice is done," stated Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman and President Tom Fitton.
