Re: Elian Gonzalez

Dear Mr. Craig:

We are disappointed, but hardly surprised, that we have not received a response from you concerning our letter of June 19, 2000. In this letter, we request reciprocal access, on behalf of our client, Mr. Donato Dalrymple, to Elian Gonzalez. Previously, it was reported in The Ft. Lauderdale Sun Sentinel and The Washington Post, among other newspapers and press outlets, that Mr. Dalrymple’s cousin, Sam Ciancio, had received an all-expense paid trip to Washington to visit with Elian Gonzalez. In addition, Mr. Dalrymple says that he had been told by Mr. Ciancio that his cousin had been invited by Cuban officials to visit Cuba and had in fact visited Cuba. While we understand from a conversation with Mr. Ciancio yesterday that he denies having received an all-expense paid trip to visit Washington, and that he was never invited nor would he visit Cuba, we renew our request that Mr. Dalrymple, out of a matter of fairness, courtesy, and concern for Elian, be allowed access to the little boy.

It is manifestly unfair to allow only people you may agree with to visit Elian Gonzalez, but to deny access to others like Mr. Dalrymple who, with Mr. Ciancio, also helped save the boy’s life and who care for and love him.

Thank you for an immediate response today.

Sincerely,

JUDICIAL WATCH, INC.

Larry Klayman
Chairman and General Counsel
