NEW DOCUMENTS SHOW INS CHIEF MEISSNER "IN BED" WITH JOAN CAMPBELL OF NATIONAL COUNCIL OF CHURCHES

INS Decision To Return Elian Was "Cooked" With Castro And His Sympathizers

(Washington, DC) Documents recently disclosed by the Clinton-Gore Immigration and Naturalization Service ("INS") in Judicial Watch's Freedom of Information Act lawsuit show that Doris Meissner, chief of the INS, was in intimate and apparently constant communication with Joan Campbell, head of the National Council of Churches in the Elian matter. As "Elian watchers" will remember, the National Council of Churches is serving as the means to fund the legal efforts of the President's lawyer, Gregory Craig of Williams & Connolly, to return the boy to the clutches of the Communist, murderous dictator, Fidel Castro. The National Council of Churches, far from being a legitimate religious organization, is in reality a far-left group which sympathizes with leftist regimes around the world.

The documents, which Judicial Watch will place on its website (www.JudicialWatch.org), are yet one more example that the Clinton-Gore Administration cut a "deal" with Cuba to return little Elian without regard for the law, which requires that the INS provide the boy with at least an asylum hearing before making a decision.

"The documents showing Meissner's contacts with Joan Campbell of the National Council of Churches (and the other documents uncovered by Judicial Watch) prove once and for all that Castro, Craig, Meissner, Attorney General Reno, and the whole lot are working together to serve the interests of Fidel Castro," stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

"This is a national disgrace," added Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman.
