GORE WILLING TO DEBATE LARRY KLAYMAN

DNC Spokeswoman Makes Startling Assertion in TV Interview

(Washington, DC) Vice President Al Gore is willing to debate Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman during the runup to November’s presidential election, a Democratic National Committee (DNC) spokeswoman has said on national television.

Jenny Backus, interviewed Tuesday by Bill O’Reilly on Fox Television’s The O’Reilly Factor, made the comment after being asked why the vice president, who has agreed to participate in Judicial Watch’s October 20 presidential debate on ethics in government, declines to appear on the television program.

“I think Al Gore is, like, willing to debate Larry Klayman ... with Larry Klayman, so I think he would be willing to come on the show,” she said.

Gore on August 22 accepted Judicial Watch’s invitation to participate in a presidential debate on ethics in government and its restoration, which is slated for the Ronald Reagan Center is Washington, DC. Other presidential candidates who have formally accepted are Pat Buchanan of the Reform Party, Howard Phillips of the Constitution Party and the Libertarian Party’s Harry Browne. Expressions of interest have been received from George W. Bush and Ralph Nader.

“I will not be a participant in the debate since I am not running for the presidency,” Klayman commented on Backus’ statement. “But I’d be pleased to debate ethics in government with Mr. Gore or any other presidential candidate at any time. It’s an issue America cannot ignore.”
