CNN’S “LATE EDITION” ASKS RAY ABOUT JUDICIAL WATCH CRITICISM ON CLOSURE OF WHITEWATER INVESTIGATION

(Washington, DC) On Sunday’s edition of “Late Edition,” host Wolf Blitzer commendably challenged Independent Counsel Robert Ray, citing Judicial Watch’s criticism that the Independent Counsel had failed to use the proper legal standard, “probable cause,” in deciding whether to indict Bill and/or Hillary Clinton for Whitewater crimes. Ray responded by saying that Mr. Klayman would not have him stop at the “water’s edge;” speculating that any “responsible” prosecutor would go beyond probable cause in seeking an indictment, and instead make a determination of whether a jury would convict beyond a reasonable doubt.

“If this was the standard for indicting criminals, we would very rarely, if ever, have any indictments at all,” responded Klayman. “What Mr. Ray is really saying is that there is a dual system of justice, one for the Clintons and another for the rest of the country,” he added.
