GONZALEZ SUIT AGAINST RENO AND MEISSNER OVER ELIAN RAID TO COMPLEMENT JUDICIAL WATCH’S COMPLAINT ON BEHALF OF LITTLE HAVANA NEIGHBORHOOD

Judicial Watch Filed Action Months Ago and Is Now In Discovery Stage

(Washington, D.C.) Judicial Watch welcomed news today that the Miami family of Elian Gonzalez has filed its own complaint against Janet Reno, Doris Meissner and the City of Miami. This will complement Judicial Watch’s lawsuit on behalf of Little Havana over the illegal raid orchestrated by Janet Reno, Doris Meissner, and Eric Holder of the Clinton-Gore Justice Department on April 22, 2000 (Easter weekend). This action by the Gonzalez family furthers Judicial Watch’s efforts to obtain justice.

For a copy of the Judicial Watch complaint on behalf of Donato Dalrymple and about 50 Little Havana residents, see www. JudicialWatch.org.

“Judicial Watch represented the Gonzalez family during the last hours before Elian was sent back to Cuba and has deep respect for their efforts to keep the young boy free. If desired, we will again work closely with the lawyers for the Gonzalez family to obtain justice over the illegal raid, where innocent bystanders, who were simply praying for the boy’s future, were gassed and beaten by Janet Reno’s armed agents,” stated Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman.
