JUDICIAL WATCH BALLOT PROBE HEARING

9:30 AM, Wednesday, November 22, 2000, Palm Beach County Courthouse, 205 North Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach, Florida

Independent Watchdog To Examine Irregularities And Disqualified Ballots

“Honest Numbers” Pledged To The American People By Public Interest Legal Firm

(Washington DC) Judicial Watch, the not-for-profit, 501(c)(3), anti-corruption public interest law firm has pledged to provide a non-partisan examination of Florida voting irregularities and absentee ballot disqualification for the American public. Judicial Watch filed Public Records Act requests to examine ballots in the November 7th presidential election with all 67 of Florida’s counties. The vast majority of the counties responded in accordance with the law. Palm Beach, Volusia and Broward counties failed to abide by Florida state law, and Judicial Watch has brought lawsuits against those counties. Palm Beach County Court will hold a hearing Wednesday concerning the lawsuit against Palm Beach County.

“We’re interested in documenting the irregularities in this vote, so the American people have an accounting and an understanding of what went on down in Florida,” stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “After all the partisan finger-pointing, the American people are owed an explanation of the numbers and the facts,” Fitton added.

“Judicial Watch is in the process of formulating an objective, scientific, non-partisan process for getting to the bottom of the Florida vote,” stated Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman. “We’re talking with accounting and balloting experts to integrate our 300-plus volunteers in an effort to get beyond party spin and media hype,” stated Klayman.
