ARE PREDICTIONS THAT RECORD MERGER WILL SAIL THROUGH CLINTON ADMINISTRATION BASED ON CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS BY TIME-WARNER? (Washington, D.C.) Time-Warner, Inc., the company which has been cozy with the Clinton Administration, contributed over $1,081,333 between January, 1991, and June, 1999, to the Democratic Party. Were this not the Clinton Administration - where the sale of government permits, licenses, and other matters has been routine in exchange for campaign contributions - the prediction yesterday by Time-Warner, Inc. and AOL that their proposed merger would sail through government regulators would perhaps not be so interesting and troubling. However, with Joel Klein as head of the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice - an individual who Linda Tripp testified is very political and kept files on perceived adversaries - it is likely that money and politics is involved in the merger. "As a previous trial attorney with the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice, something smells about the self-congratulatory statements of Time-Warner and AOL that their proposed merger is a done deal. Not only does this proposed merger raise concerns about concentration and growth in the �liberal establishment media,' the likely money and politics of this deal must be thoroughly examined.
