JUDICIAL WATCH TO FILE CRIMINAL AND ETHICS COMPLAINTS AGAINST HOLDOVER CLINTON IRS COMMISSIONER CHARLES ROSSOTTI

Rossotti Violated Ethics In Government Act By Furthering Business Between AMS, His Company And The IRS

New Articles by Insight Magazine’s John Berlau Details Criminal Conduct

(Washington, DC) [Originally released 8/8/2001] Judicial Watch, the public interest law firm that investigates and prosecutes government abuse and corruption, announced today that it will be filing criminal complaints with the U.S. Department of Justice and other federal authorities over the criminal conflict of interest of Clinton’s holdover IRS Commissioner, Charles Rossotti, who, while in office, has furthered the agency’s doing business with a company, AMS, he founded, and still owns a large percentage in. In addition, Rossotti’s wife works for AMS as outside counsel. Recently, over $17 million in extended contract benefits were provided to AMS by Rossotti’s IRS.

When Judicial Watch sought IRS documents in June about the burgeoning scandal from the Commissioner’s office, he stonewalled and refused to provide them, prompting Judicial Watch to file a FOIA lawsuit. Now, however, with new evidence mounting of Rossotti’s criminal conflict of interest, Judicial Watch will file a criminal complaint before the U.S. Department of Justice, and seek sanctions before other federal agencies. It is believed that the Clinton Administration “looked the other way” from Rossotti’s criminal conduct because he did the bidding of the Clintons in conducting scores of political audits against their perceived adversaries. Importantly, Rossotti comes from New York, the home of the Clintons.

“Commissioner Rossotti is a serious legal jeopardy and he must now be held accountable for his actions -- which are criminal. To allow corruption to exist at the IRS, particularly given its sordid past in conducting political audits – would not only be wrong, it would send a signal that the agency and its Commissioner are ‘above the law,’” stated Judicial Watch Chairman, Larry Klayman.

“Commissioner Rossotti must not only be prosecuted, but he should be forced to immediately resign by the Bush White House and Congressional Republicans and Democrats,” added Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.
