JUDICIAL WATCH ASKS SACRAMENTO GRAND JURY TO REVIEW SLA CASE

(San Marino, CA) Judicial Watch, Inc., in cooperation with a murder victim’s son, Dr. Jon Opsahl, has submitted a complaint to the Sacramento Grand Jury requesting a hearing in relation to Sara Jane Olson and the 1975 Carmichael bank robbery.

On April 21, 1975, in Carmichael, California, Myra Opsahl, the 42-year old wife of a Sacramento surgeon, was killed in a bank robbery which was allegedly perpetrated by the Symbionese Liberation Army (“SLA”). An alleged member of the SLA, Sara Jane Olson, was one of the members of that robbery team, according to Patty Hearst’s account of the robbery in her book.

Patty Hearst has said that she, along with members of the SLA, committed that bank robbery. She said that she waited in the get-away car while other members, including Sara Jane Olson, went in to commit the robbery. During that robbery, Mrs. Opsahl (who was depositing church monies) was shot to death. If true, Olson, whether the actual shooter or not, is at least guilty of robbery murder. In addition, Olson’s palm print was found in the garage where the SLA vehicles were stored.

Judicial Watch has asked the Grand Jury to consider evidence to determine whether to issue a criminal indictment and whether the appointment of a special prosecutor would be needed. If a special prosecutor is appointed, Ernie Norris, former Deputy District Attorney of Los Angeles County and now head of Judicial Watch’s Judicial Monitoring Project, is available.

Inexplicably, the matter has been submitted several times to the Sacramento District Attorney’s office and it has refused to take any action.
