BUSH FBI CHOICE SHOULD FACE TOUGH QUESTIONS

MUELLER THRIVED IN CLINTON JUSTICE DEPARTMENT

Mueller Should Be Asked How Will He Clean Up FBI After Disasters of Freeh Directorship

(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch, the public interest law firm that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it would take a wait and see attitude towards President Bushs nomination of Justice Department veteran prosecutor Robert Mueller to server as Director of the troubled FBI. Reportedly, Mr. Mueller comes highly recommended by Attorney General John Ashcroft, which is a high recommendation indeed.

But Judicial Watch will look for answers from Mr. Mueller to the following tough questions:

  • What was his role, if any, in the Reno Justice Departments investigation of Chinagate, which looked the other way to Chinagate crimes by Bill Clinton and Al Gore?

  • How will he protect the privacy rights of American citizens from an FBI that sent hundreds of sensitive FBI files to Hillary Clinton and her political bouncers at the Clinton White House?

  • How will he reform the FBIs police powers, in light of the FBI-induced deaths at Waco and Ruby Ridge; the bungling of the Atlanta Olympics bombing, and the McVeigh evidence mishandling?

  • How will he bring a sense of ethics back to a FBI which saw top officials commit perjury and destroy documents?

  • How will he handle numerous espionage scandals facing the FBI? (In addition to the Hanssen spy scandal, the FBI illegally confiscated the computer of Energy Department espionage whistleblower Notra Trulock after he accused a top FBI official of perjury.)

  • How will he maintain the political independence of the FBI?
Public respect for the FBI has been decimated thanks to Louis Freeh and the Clinton-Gore gang. Serious consideration ought to be given to curtailing the leviathan FBIs reach and powers. Mr. Mueller should be asked tough questions on how he intends to reform this once-respected law enforcement agency. Simply put, the FBI cannot survive another Louis Freeh, stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.
