Judicial Watch friends and supporters know from this newsletter and limited reporting in the media a great deal about our ongoing work. At present we are fighting corruption from New York (now home to Bill and Hillary Clinton) to California (where Governor Gray Davis still hasn't come clean about his involvement in the ongoing energy crisis) to Florida (site of our famous efforts to assure a fair recounting of Presidential election ballots just nine months ago).
But where do these inquiries begin? Well for starters, with the Clinton administration, it was just a question of where to start, not if or when. But what about recent cases? More and more our investigations begin with a call from a citizen in need of help. A good example of that is the matter with former Clinton fundraiser and close friend, Peter Paul. When Mr. Paul realized that his unwilling participation in a scheme to illegally funnel nearly $2 million into the Senate campaign of candidate Hillary Clinton in New York he knew he needed big time legal help. He didn't call the Justice Department. He called Judicial Watch.
That and other evidence indicates that your Judicial Watch has grown in respect and is now a Washington "institution." Linda Shenwick, Notra Trulock, and Dolly Kyle Browning recognized this as well.
And, like other political, public policy, educational and legal organizations in Washington, we have grown and matured. Now, as we celebrate our 7th Birthday, we stand better prepared than ever to partner with you to fight the serious corruption that threatens the very foundation of the American nation. The theme for our conference this month, "Fighting Corruption, Fostering Freedom" says it well. Judicial Watch supporters and friends know this better than anyone else.
One characteristic of an "institution" is that its supporters recognize the need for providing for the long-term financial stability of the organization. Over the past year, Judicial Watch supporters have told us they have included us in their estate planning. Other supporters have set up trusts and still others have made gifts of appreciated assets that provided major benefits to us while also giving a significant tax savings to the donors.
With support like this, Judicial Watch is assured of a thriving future and corrupt politicians, government officials, lawyers and judges are put on notice that we will find them and bring them to justice because "no one is above the law."
