Like a baseball team in a pennant race, JW recently pulled off an acquisition that adds instant punch to its legal line-up as it moves into a critical phase of its campaign finance case against the Clintons. Clinton impeachment hero David Schippers joined Judicial Watch's legal team.
JW is now negotiating at the highest levels of the Department of Justice to allow Mr. Paul to return to the U.S. to testify about the corrupt scheme cooked up by the Clintons to steal the most powerful seat in the Senate. Certain officials, for political reasons, are willing to give the Clintons a free pass on their criminal activity. It's JW's job to strike a deal and convince the Justice Department to launch a criminal investigation. Here, Mr. Schipper's skills and experience will prove invaluable.
Perhaps better than anyone in the nation, Mr. Schippers knows how the Clintons think and operate. In 1998, as the lead House Impeachment Counsel, Mr. Schippers brilliantly argued the case for Clinton's removal from office. And though the Senate lacked the backbone to do its Constitutional duty and vote for impeachment, no one can dispute the powerful arguments put forth by Mr. Schippers.
This time, Mr. Schippers may be in an even better position to hold Clinton accountable than he was a few years ago. As ABC News' reporting corroborated on its award-winning "20/20" program, Peter Paul and Judicial Watch have hard evidence the Clintons failed to report more than $2 million in campaign contributions to the FEC. The money came in the form of a Hollywood fundraiser organized by Paul and attended by the celebrities such as Brad Pitt, Cher and John Travolta.
Evidence also shows the Clintons promised Paul major, tangible and illegal benefits in return for raising money for Hillary. This was clearly a quid pro quo and Judicial Watch can prove it, if given the chance. Also, unlike the impeachment inquiry, JW and Mr. Schippers will not be hampered by a Monica Lewinsky type sex scandal to detract attention away from the serious crimes committed.
"The pieces may now be in place to put the Clintons in jail," said JW Chairman Larry Klayman. "Judicial Watch has the smoking gun evidence, the attention of the media, one of the nation's great legal strategists and the support of its members."
