It has become increasingly clear in the last eight years, that Judicial Watch has become the "People's Justice Department." When the American people are abused, manipulated, victimized-even terrorized-it is our responsibility to act on their behalf.
This is a responsibility born of our government's failure to do its job to protect its citizens from harm, whatever form harm may take.
On September 11, America lost nearly 7,000 of citizens during the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. It is in their memory that we issue the following promise: Judicial Watch will pursue Osama Bin Laden and his other related terrorist networks through every single legal channel available in the U.S. and abroad. We will not rest until justice has been done.
Once again, Judicial Watch has stepped into the breach created by government neglect and incompetence with its new Terrorism Task Force Project.
How does Judicial Watch plan to help win the war against terrorism? We will follow the money.
Of the many important lessons learned by Judicial Watch during the Clinton presidency, one stands out among them: If you want to get to the bottom of any investigation, you must follow the money trail.
Long before September 11, Judicial Watch was already hard at work on the terrorist threat. JW agreed to represent a client who provided government law enforcement agencies with conclusive evidence that U.S. based non-profit organizations and banks were funding terrorist groups. His charges were ignored and he came to JW for help.
Though the details of this case cannot yet be revealed due to attorney-client privilege and the sensitive nature of the allegations, JW will soon expose how the government has failed to fully investigate the threat of terrorism.
Immediately following the terrorist attacks on September 11, Judicial Watch began a thorough investigation of financial holdings in the United States that are linked to the bin Laden financial empire.
The Bush Administration's list of terrorist-affiliated organizations whose assets it is freezing is incomplete. First, it failed to include a number of non-profit organizations that have been known to finance terrorist activity with tax-exempt contributions. (Terrorists often establish phony non-profits for this purpose.)
Secondly, in an effort to appease members of the anti-terrorist coalition such as Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, Egypt, the list also omitted the Palestinian terrorist groups, Hamas, the Iranian group Hezbollah and the Islamic Jihad. One former government official told the Washington Post, "If we put Hamas and Hezbollah on the list, [Palestinian leader] Yasser Arafat may be less inclined to decry" the bombings.
Judicial Watch believes politics should not play a role in the fight against terrorism. All groups must be listed. And if this happens to offend certain nations, then they should be considered hostile to the United States of America.
Judicial Watch has filed an official complaint with the Internal
Revenue Service against 16 such non-profits and 4 for-profit entities that have been linked to the bin Laden network, asking that these organizations be audited and shut down permanently.
In addition to Judicial Watch's investigative efforts with respect to finances, JW will of course launch legal action-domestic and foreign-against the Arab terrorists and those who helped them.
We will uncover terrorist networks that exist in the United States.
We will represent the victims of the attack and their families, ensuring they receive justice for the crimes committed against them.
And we will expose and help remedy the government policies that left the American people so vulnerable to attack.
