With all of the attention paid to the terrorist attacks on September 11, one recent move by Congress almost slipped underneath the radar screen. Gary Condit, who has been implicated in the disappearance of intern Chandra Levy, was appointed to the House Subcommittee on Terrorism and Homeland Security.
Judicial Watch recommended that House Speaker Dennis Hastert and House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt remove him from this subcommittee and the equally sensitive House Intelligence Committee.
"In this time of national emergency, we can think of few worse to lead Congress's fight against terrorism than Gary Condit," said JW Chairman Larry Klayman. "His lies and obstruction of justice make him unfit to hold public office, let alone a sensitive post such as this."
Judicial Watch has requested grand juries in San Francisco and San Mateo counties to investigate Condit's obstruction of justice and subornation of perjury with respect to JW client Anne Marie Smith. Ms. Smith, who is also represented by Jim Robinson, was asked repeatedly to sign a false affidavit by Condit and his agents about an affair she had with the Congressman.
