For seven years Judicial Watch fought the Clinton Administration’s attempts to withhold information from the American people. George W. Bush has taken this practice one step further—making it legal for any president, past or present, to thwart the rights of the American people by denying them access to documents.
The President recently issued an executive order allowing the White House or former presidents to veto the release of presidential papers if they are deemed to be “national security” concerns. The order also covers the records of former vice presidents.
“In light of the September 11 attacks, it is of even greater importance that the public maintain its right to obtain information about the activities of our leaders,” said JW Chairman Larry Klayman. “JW will challenge this overly broad order.”
