Li Ka Shing has been described as “one of the most trusted allies of the Communist Chinese.” And now, he is attempting to gain control of fiber optic lines connecting the U.S. to Europe, Asia and Latin America by acquiring the recently bankrupt Global Crossing, Ltd.
Judicial Watch has filed formal complaints with the Bush Administration and will file a lawsuit as well.
According to multiple news reports, Global Crossing has signed a letter of intent with Hutchison Whampoa, Li Ka-Shing’s company, and Singapore Technologies Telemedia that would transfer control of the company for $750 million.
“The acquisition would give China access to sensitive national security assets,” said JW President Tom Fitton. “Given their control of data, not only would they have ample opportunities to spy, but they would also be granted a means by which to bring their Trojan horse into our country to attack our internal networks.”
Li Ka-Shing is already the gatekeeper of the Panama Canal. The Clinton Administration allowed the company to gain a 25-year lease agreement to operate the Panama Canal’s Pacific and Atlantic Ports in 1999—a dangerous oversight considering Li Ka-Shing’s Communist connections.
China’s Red Billionaire
Ka-Shing’s ties to Communist China are as deep as they are well-documented:
Through the Freedom of Information Act, Judicial Watch uncovered recently declassified Government intelligence reports that state, “Li is directly connected to Beijing and is willing to use his business influence to further the aims of the Chinese Government.”
According to the book Li Ka-shing: Hong Kong’s Elusive Billionaire, by Anthony Chan, Li Ka-Shing said of the Tiananmin massacre, “I was of course saddened. But as a Chinese, China is my motherland. No matter what happened, I am still willing to work for the future of my country.”
Richard A. Dalgaudio, President of the National Security Center and author of Panama in Peril, a book on the Communist Chinese takeover of the Panama Canal, testified before the House Armed Services Committee that “Li was very useful to the People’s Republic of China in the takeover of Hong Kong.”
Li Ka-Shing is a member of the China International Trust and Investment Corporation (CITIC), China’s top investment arm and the bank of the People’s Liberation Army.
Li Ka-Shing attempted to wrestle control of the military port in Long Beach, California on behalf of the Chinese navy.
Perhaps even more disturbing, according to Delgaudio, “The government of the United States has known all along about Li Ka-Shing’s ties to Communist China, a self-proclaimed enemy of the United States, and has offered no resistance.”
“Li Ka Shing’s ties to Communist China make it clear,” said JW Chairman Larry Klayman. “If he is asked to shut down or damage or even destroy America’s communications network in some future U.S.-Chinese confrontation, he will say yes. If he is asked to shut down or damage or even destroy the Panama Canal, he will say yes. For this reason JW must be successful in its efforts to stop him before it’s too late because it is obvious the U.S. government will not act on its own.”
