JW Pushes for Investigation of Cohen

Judicial Watch has formally requested an investigation of former Secretary of Defense William Cohen for his suspicious relationship with Global Crossing Ltd. According to a report first published in the Los Angeles Times, Cohen received a payment of $500,000 in consulting fees from the now bankrupt company during 2001. Shortly before the payment, as Clinton’s Secretary of Defense, Cohen ran a Pentagon that awarded Global Crossing a $450 million contract to develop a high-speed data network connecting its laboratories and research centers. To its credit, Donald Rumsfeld’s Pentagon eventually cancelled the contract due to complaints of impropriety filed by competitors in the bidding process. Cohen, not coincidentally, sits on Global Crossing’s Board of Directors.
