INS Agents Testify to Anti-Hispanic Bigotry at INS Miami Office

On April 10, three Immigration and Naturalization agents confirmed that there was anti-Cuban paraphernalia at the Miami district office. The testimony bolsters the case of JW client Rick Ramirez who has accused the office of discrimination against Cuban Americans. The Cuban American community is generally conservative and patriotic.

According to Mr. Ramirez, agents not only joked about shooting little Elian, but they also plastered the office with offensive anti-Cuban messages. For example, banners were hung with the City of Miami seal and a headline reading "banana republic" and cupholders were produced showing the image of a Cuban flag with a line slashed through it.

Mr. Ramirez has been subject to retaliation, even death threats, for coming forward with his accusations. Judicial Watch is seeking a finding of discrimination against the agency and a transfer for Mr. Ramirez.
