Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor:

I have two questions for you. (1) With all your lawsuits, don't you win any monetary awards from those you successfully sue? (2) If you do win monetary awards at times, wouldn’t it be the right and ethical thing to do to notify us, your supporters of those awards and their monetary value?

Editor’s Response: To date, while we have enjoyed more than 60 major court victories (including the historic ruling that President Clinton had committed a crime in office), we have yet to be awarded even attorney’s fees. Of course, when we win a damage award or attorney fees, you will be the first to know. At that time, we will in effect be simply recovering expenses that we have already advanced. And damage awards go to our clients, not JW.

Dear Editor:

I have nothing but praise for the work JW is doing, but I read something in the April issue of the JW Newsletter that I wanted to comment on. It was stated that the root problem that JW seeks to address is "pervasive political, business and legal corruption." It appears to me that the root problem in corruption is the same root problem in the drug war money.

The drug war cannot be won by prosecuting one dealer at a time because the monetary rewards are too great and the risk of prosecution too remote. Likewise, the corrupt politician, businessman or judge cannot be prosecuted one at a time with any appreciable success because of the monetary rewards. Until JW came onto the scene the corrupt politician enjoyed complete immunity because the Justice Department refuses to prosecute the politically elite... The root problem all Americans face was created in the landmark case of NLRB v. Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp. 57 S Ct615 (1937) in which the Supreme Court, attempting to preserve the power of a nine justice court rather than the fifteen justice court threatened by F.D.R., redefined the Commerce Clause and destroyed the Republic in favor or the current day Neo-Fascist Welfare State. The Constitution now stands on its head and there is nothing beyond the power of the central government. Under the present system the central government collects two trillion dollars that it administers. The power to spend two trillion dollars breeds corruption, as Lord Acton so cogently stated.

While government controls that kind of money there will be people who will do anything to influence its administration and corruption will thrive in business, in the courts, in politics. If JW is successful in bringing the Clintons to justice the people will be encouraged that justice can prevail, but will it change the overall backroom corruption taking place every day in D.C.? How many dirty politicians will JW have to prosecute to stem the lure of power with two trillion dollars in the kitty? I wish JW success in all its legal actions, and I will continue to support it, but we need to restore the Republic by redefining the Commerce Clause to its original intent.

Perry A. McCullough, J.D.

Editor’s Response: Thank you for taking time to present such an important statement and your analysis of the root of all corruption. And, thanks for your commitment to support our work. While we cannot expect to defeat all corruption, we can and must start at the top. Given that big government fosters corruption, it is no wonder that we are conservatives involved in this fight.
