JW Deposes Key Chinagate Figure
Bush Administration Fails to Provide Immunity for Court Testimony

If John Huang spoke freely, he would blow the lid off the Clinton Administration’s Chinagate scandal, and Bill and Hillary Clinton would probably end up in prison for their crimes. This is how important John Huang is to the case against the Clintons. Which makes it all the more incredible that the Bush Administration refuses to grant Huang immunity in exchange for his full and complete testimony in a JW court case.

On May 3, Judicial Watch deposed Huang for the fifth time, and while there were a few new developments, the deposition was severely hindered by Huang’s instinct for self-preservation. The Chinese agent invoked his 5th Amendment rights 147 times during the four and one-half hour deposition, adding to his previous total of 2,000 invocations.

Magistrate Judge John Facciola held Huang in contempt an additional five times, raising the total number of contempt citations to 145. If these citations are upheld on appeal, Huang could face significant time in jail.

The Bush Administration is, in effect, preventing Judicial Watch from discovering the truth in the Chinagate case," said JW President Tom Fitton. "All the Justice Department has to do is grant Huang immunity, and one of the most serious cases of treason in U.S. history would be exposed for all to see."

Among the new discoveries extracted from Huang during his tight-lipped deposition: Huang estimated he and his wife have contributed over $10,000 to Congressman Dick Gephardt and between $5,000 and $10,000 to Senator Tom Daschle. He also stated he has received more than 10 fundraising solicitations from the Republican National Committee in the last two years. Shockingly, when asked whether or not he has donated to the various George W. Bush campaigns, he invoked the 5th Amendment.

It was Judicial Watch that uncovered the Chinagate scandal, when it learned that Huang, a suspected Chinese agent working for the Clinton Commerce Department, was involved in a scheme to illegally sell trade mission seats for campaign contributions. While at the Commerce Department, Huang also received more than 150 national security briefings from the CIA, which, it is believed, he shared with Chinese Intelligence Services.
