Another Judicial Watch Victory Browning vs Clinton Suit Ordered to Go Forward! Bill Clinton Soon to be Deposed
Following up on its promise to doggedly pursue the Clintons until justice is served, Judicial Watch was back in court on June 12 earning a major victory on behalf of the American people. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia reversed a lower court ruling on two counts of a complaint brought by JW client Dolly Kyle Browning. Her suit against former President Clinton will move forward.
"Finally, there will be real legal consequences for Bill Clinton," said JW Chairman Larry Klayman. "We look forward to taking Mr. Clinton’s testimony under oath as soon as possible. We will seek justice for his illicit efforts to destroy his perceived political adversaries."
Ms. Browning brought her lawsuit against Clinton and his top aides for blocking the publication of her book, Purposes of the Heart. The semi-autobiographical novel documented Ms. Browning’s 30-year relationship with the former president.
According to the complaint, Ms. Browning¹s brother told her via the telephone in 1992, allegedly at Clinton’s direction, "If you cooperate with the media, we will destroy you." Bruce Lindsey, then Deputy White House Counsel and Clinton’s brother, Roger, also issued threats against Ms. Browning in an attempt to keep her from telling her story.
In 1994, then-President Clinton admitted to the threats issued against Ms. Browning at their 30th high school reunion, and even apologized for them. Still, when Ms. Browning refused to back down, Clinton lied about the reunion meeting and allegedly submitted a false written report on the event to Time for publication. He and his aides then, "intentionally and maliciously interfered with" the publication of Ms. Browning¹s book by threatening potential publishers and orchestrating a scheme to defame Ms. Browning publicly.
In 1996, Purposes of the Heart was dubbed by Publisher's Weekly as a "bombshell" that "could knock Primary Colors right out of the headlines." However, soon after Clinton’s intimidation campaign, Ms. Browning could not find a publisher willing to take heat from the President.
"Mr. Clinton used every dirty trick in his arsenal to keep Ms. Browning from exercising her right to tell her story because it would have been politically embarrassing," said Klayman. "We¹re pleased the Judge agreed with Judicial Watch that Ms. Browning deserves her day in Court."
The Appeals Court ruled, "In sum, we reverse the dismissal of the intentional interference with
business opportunity claim against Mr. Clinton (and the related common law civil conspiracy claim) and remand for further proceedings." That means Mr. Clinton will now face justice once more, and he will soon be deposed, as in the historic Paula Jones case!
