JW Sues Saudis for Role in Terrorist Attacks
"Every nation in every region now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists." This is what the President said to warn nations that harbor or support terrorists. JW seeks to apply President Bush¹’s correct stance to Saudi Arabia.
As a recent lawsuit by Judicial Watch suggests, far from being a partner in the war on terrorism, the Saudis are the chief financial backers of terrorism in the world, and should be at the top of the U.S. government¹s list of state sponsors of terror.
"It took over four months for the Saudi government to acknowledge that 14 of the 19 known hijackers were Saudi nationals," noted JW President Tom Fitton. "It is now time for the Bush Administration to treat the Saudi government like the enemy it is." Because Bush won’t do this, Judicial Watch will!
Judicial Watch’s lawsuit was filed on behalf of a victim of the 9/11 attacks, who wishes to remain anonymous for security reasons. His wife was murdered in the World Trade Center during the attacks. The lawsuit alleges that more than 100 Saudi Arabian entities provided financial support for 9/11, masking their blood monies for al Qaeda and other terrorists through a series of foundations, banking entities and front groups.
In addition to a number of Saudi charities and banks, members of the ruling royal family of Saudi Arabia are named as defendants in the lawsuit, which seeks at least $30 million in damages.
This is the third case filed by Judicial Watch against state sponsors of terror. The first, filed on behalf of the same victim, named the government of Iraq, the Taliban, Osama bin Laden and others. The second case, against Iraq and Saddam Hussein, was one that involved the Oklahoma City bombing.
Predictably, Iraq has failed to respond to both lawsuits. Judicial Watch expects a "default judgment" against the Iraqis any day, which would enable the cases to move to discovery.
