Judicial Watch Victory: JW Client, FBI Agent Reassigned to Counterterrorism Post
Special Agent Robert Wright, Jr. is one of the most knowledgeable people in the FBI when it comes to terrorism. He is also the only FBI agent to seize funds (over $1.4 million) from U.S. based terrorists using federal civil forfeiture statues prior to September 11. As a reward for his expertise and his effectiveness, SA Wright received neither awards nor commendations, but rather a demotion. Why?
SA Wright lost his job because he refused to keep quiet about the FBI’s incompetent approach to terrorism investigations. Now, however, in the wake of a year-long legal and media assault launched by JW on SA Wright’s behalf, and a congressional probe criticizing the FBI for missing key clues relating to the September 11 attacks, the FBI was forced to admit its mistake. And SA Wright has his job back.
"This is a huge victory for Judicial Watch and for the American people," said JW President Tom Fitton. "Special Agent Wright is now able to do what he does best track down and prosecute terrorists."
Chief among SA Wright’s criticisms of the FBI was the fact that rather than building criminal cases against known terrorists, and putting them in jail, the FBI was too focused on gathering intelligence information. Furthermore, Wright also called attention to a fellow agent who refused to tape record conversations with Muslim terror suspects because the agent was Muslim. SA Wright complained to his supervisors at the FBI¹s Chicago division where he was stationed and national headquarters in Washington, DC with no results.
SA Wright recently came forward with new evidence that the FBI continues, even today, to dodge accountability and cover-up its negligence in pursuing terrorists who pose a direct threat to the United States. For example, some of the same agents that derailed his investigations recently lied to judges of a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act Court by falsifying wiretap warrant applications.
The full story of the FBI’s incompetence and neglect is detailed in Special Agent Wright’s manuscript, Fatal Betrayals of the Intelligence Mission. However, the FBI is blocking dissemination of the manuscript (even to Congress), fearing the fallout that would result from its release into the public domain. Those interested in knowing the inside story behind the FBI’s incompetence with respect to September 11 should order JW’s explosive new book, Fatal Neglect: The U.S. Government’s Continuing Failure to Protect American Citizens from Terrorists.
