JW Launches Investigation of Secret Deals with Arab Nations
In the wake of the 9/11 attacks, President Bush masterfully rallied the nation and the world in opposition to terrorism. "You're either with us or with the terrorists," the President stated, warning terrorist nations to clean up their act, or suffer the wrath of the United States.
Evidence suggests U.S. policy has not lived up to the principled position outlined by the President more than a year and a half ago. For this reason, JW filed Freedom of Information Act requests, seeking information pertaining to "secret deals and concessions" made by the U.S. government in exchange for Arab cooperation in its war on terrorism.
"The security of the United States and its citizens must remain the Bush Administration's number one priority," said JW Chairman Larry Klayman. "The American people need to know that their government is not making long-term concessions to terror sponsors or trading away the nationšs future in exchange for short-term security goals."
On January 2, 2003, the New York Times reported that Syria, one of seven nations still listed by the State Department as a state sponsor of terrorism, and the Bush Administration have "refashioned their relationship." The same can be said of Saudi Arabia, home to 15 of the 19 September 11 hijackers. Through its FOIA request, Judicial Watch will find out what, if anything, is being traded away in exchange for the political cooperation of dangerous and unpredictable terrorist states.
