Make no mistake. Corrupt politicians and government officials of every political persuasion would love nothing more than to see Judicial Watch overextend, fold up its tent and leave town. Judicial Watch recently launched a drive to purchase the building that has served as a home to the organization since its inception. Purchasing its headquarters at 501 School Street will enable Judicial Watch and its members to:

* Add office space and expand its media center. Judicial Watch can hire new legal staff and investigators to handle new cases of corruption, and expand its media center with state-of-the-art television and radio facilities. This allows JW to bypass the liberal media and speak directly with the American people.

* Avoid paying costly rent payments. Judicial Watch will pay $15 million in rent payments over the next 20 years. These payments currently about $600,000 per year can go to pay for JW’s fight against public corruption.

* Funnel more money to its programs. Judicial Watch can lease unused portions of the building to other tenants, generating roughly $1.8 million annually to invest in its programs.

* Take advantage of its strategic location. Located in the heart of governmental Washington, the building is a short, 8-minute walk to the federal courts and 10 minutes to Capitol Hill. National news media are also nearby.

* Ensure the security of staff and clients. JW’s building was designed with security in mind. As the building”s owner, JW can put security guards in the lobby to protect staff and clients from those who would do them harm.

* Take advantage of low interest rates. Interest rates are now at their lowest point in history, making this the perfect time to buy.

* Make an excellent investment. Property values in Washington, DC have skyrocketed over the past few years. By not purchasing the building today, Judicial Watch will lose significant future income for its educational and anti-corruption programs.
