Justice Department Probes FBI - Chinese Connection

A recent report from the Associated Press reveals that mere incompetence might not tell the full story about the FBI's failures to investigate Chinese espionage. Readers of the JW Verdict may remember that JW client Notra Trulock, the man who uncovered the theft of nuclear secrets at Los Alamos, was critical of the FBI for botching an investigation into the matter. According to the Associated Press, the Justice Department is now investigating whether or not FBI agents were involved in business deals with China while simultaneously probing Chinese efforts to acquire sensitive military technology. Arizona based freelance journalist Don Devereux, who investigated the allegations and has since become a government witness, wrote to the FBI in 2002 about evidence he collected that revealed that several Phoenix FBI agents became personally involved in the mid-1990s in various international trading companies, some evidently doing business with China. "As I understand it," wrote Devereux, "those same agents had counterintelligence responsibilities at the same time, duties which specifically included the monitoring of illegal technology transfer to China." The FBI never investigated the matter.

Clinton IRS Targeted Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly
Throughout his presidency, Bill Clinton used the IRS as a battering ram to punish perceived political enemies, including Judicial Watch. In fact, JW recently obtained documents that prove the IRS' audit of the organization was politically motivated. In his recent book, Who's Looking Out for You? Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly claims that he, too, was a victim of the Clinton IRS. "I was audited three years in a row during the Clinton administration," O'Relly writes. "The audits were not specifically targeted, just big fishing expeditions. I didn't back down from the IRS." Neither did Judicial Watch. JW has filed several lawsuits against the IRS on behalf of conservative clients who were illegally targeted and earned an important victory on behalf of one victim. Katherine Prudhomme, the woman who embarrassed Al Gore during the 2000 Presidential election by questioning him about Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky during a televised debate, was targeted immediately after her confrontation with Gore. The IRS backed down after Judicial Watch got involved.
