Corrupt System Rewards Incompetence in Miami-Dade

David Leahy botched two important elections in Miami-Dade County while serving as election supervisor and was forced to resign as a result. In fact, Judicial Watch exposed widespread negligence and gross mismanagement in Leahy's department shortly after last year's gubernatorial primary. But thanks to what Miami-Dade calls its "Pipeline Process," taxpayers are going to pay Leahy an annual salary of $155,042 to continue his "work" for the county. The "Pipeline Process" was designed to help county employees who lose their job through no fault of their own to move to the front of the line for any job that matches their skills. According to press reports, Leahy's new boss favored hiring a more qualified candidate for less money, but Leahy got the job none-the-less.

"It appears someone in Miami-Dade County government is going out of their way to take care of the failed former elections supervisor. Taxpayers should not foot the bill for this corrupt patronage," said JW President Tom Fitton.
