Tom Fitton Takes Aim at Clintons in Court TV Appearance
Hollywood at Large
Court TV recently covered the legal difficulties of Anthony Pellicano, a licensed private investigator who has worked for Michael Jackson, Kevin Costner, and Steven Segal, among others. Pellicano is suspected of illegally wiretapping during investigations on behalf of Hollywood stars, and possibly "political" stars as well. He is also currently in jail for possession of illegal explosives.
Readers of the JW Verdict will remember it is alleged that Pellicano helped the Clintons defame Gennifer Flowers after Ms. Flowers went public with audiotapes of conversations she had with Bill Clinton. Pellicano's work was used to support the false claim that Ms. Flowers doctored the tapes - a claim repeated publicly by Clinton hatchetmen George Stephanopoulos and James Carville. Judicial Watch recently deposed both men in its ongoing lawsuit on behalf of Ms. Flowers.
JW President Tom Fitton was interviewed by Court TV regarding the Pellicano-Clinton connection, and its lawsuit on behalf of Gennifer Flowers, for the network's new program, Hollywood at Large, which first aired on December 4, 2003. Following are excerpts of Fitton's remarks:
"The question is, Did George Stephanopoulos and James Carville together defame, and engage in a conspiracy to defame, Gennifer Flowers."
"Her reputation had been destroyed out there because of the activities of this Clinton machine and she felt strongly that they needed to be held accountable."
"Pellicano, in 1992, was an expert quoted by a Los Angeles television station as falsely implying that Gennifer Flowers doctored her tapes of her conversations with Bill Clinton. We believe at the time he was working hand in glove with the Clinton campaign.
"These wiretaps are very interesting and we plan to contact authorities in Los Angeles to make sure that Gennifer Flowers and our other clients aren't on the list of victims of his wiretap schemes."
