Don’t Drink The Water

The City of Los Angeles constantly brags about how great and safe its drinking water is, but apparently it’s not good enough for city officials who spend thousands of dollars in public money to purchase bottled water from private firms.

The city has even spent $1 million to mail out reports that assure residents that their tap water is top quality though city employees and officials won’t drink it. In the last two years alone, Los Angeles has spent almost $90,000 in public money to purchase bottled water for employees.

The best part is that the Department of Water and Power, which supplies the city’s water and promotes it, spent the most on bottled water ($31,160 to Sparkletts) last year. The executive director of the nonpartisan Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights, says it’s incredibly ironic that the city touts the safety of its water to drink, but won’t drink it.
